World radio Day was marked around the world on Monday 13 February. The day commemorates the use of the humble radio in world development - as a means of information, exchange of ideas and entertainment, generally. This year - especially in Africa - the focus was on using medium of radio to transform lives in vulnerable communities. One international agency that has used radio in carrying out its brief is the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR which has been using the medium in refugee camps.Samuel Otieno Odhiambo is UNHCRs Public Information Associate at the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya.Martin Kwakwa spoke with him on World Radio Day, and he began by asking Mr Odhiambo about the role the humble radio set plays in life of a refugee in the camp.

As we mark World Radio Day, we look at the vital role that radio plays in UNHCRs refugee relief work.
