Sonia Smallacombe started her new role as Elder in Residence at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) last month following the departure of Bruce Pascoe, the inaugural AFTRS Elder in Residence.
In a conversation with NITV Radio, Sonia Smallacombe explained that the role of an Indigenous Elder in Residence is to provide cultural advice to students, staff and the broader community.
She comes into her new role as an AFTRS Elder in Residence after a long career in academia and the United Nations.
AFTRS has established itself as a national and global leader in education and training. It has an Indigenous Unit that supports and identifies pathways for talented Indigenous storytellers.
