Starting school later is better for children and schools: report

Source: SBS

A new report has found that students who are older when they start school are outperforming their classmates. But for many young students from migrant families or lower socio-economic backgrounds, starting Kindergarten at a later age is not possible.

New findings show students starting school at an older age are outperforming their younger classmates.  The report, led by the University of New South Wales, shows that 25 per cent of students in New South Wales are starting school later than they are first eligible, and are performing better than their younger peers.
