Almut Weiler-Anderson is German, but has lived in Australia since 2007. However, she has not seen her husband Ross and daughter Hannah since May, at least not in person. At that time she had to stay in Germany while her little family was already flying back to Australia. In this interview, she tells us how this came about and all she has already done to follow them home.
Almut is an author of children's books and a preschool teacher. In 2017, she received the prestigious Australian Family Early Childhood Educator of the Year Award for best preschool teacher in Australia for her work as an educator. "In Search of Rosa" is her first children's book but this year she was in Germany to do research for the second one. She is also writing a book about parenting. Her husband, an architect, also wanted to do research for a book in Berlin, and the daughter was to go to school there. But then the Corona crisis came and tore the family apart, because Almut had to stay in Germany for an operation while her husband and daughter were already on their way home. For months Almut tried to follow them, but one flight after the other was cancelled. Now she has got it into her head to come back by Christmas and even opened a crowd-funding page for this I'll be home for Christmas, not only in my dreams.
