The only exhibition showcasing the works of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists living in Victoria opens in Melbourne this Saturday also celebrating its 7th anniversary.
The 7th edition of the Koorie Art Show opens this Saturday 7th of December and will run until Sunday 23rd of February 2020 at the Koorie Heritage Trust, Yarra Building, Federation Square.
Ahead of the launch, Tom Mosby CEO of the Koorie Heritage Trust said that the event continues the Koorie Heritage Trust’s role of incubating, nurturing and promoting Victorian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and artists.
This year the annual event has attracted a record 90 artists from across all regions in Victoria all vying for the Koorie Art Show Awards.
Entries were made through a state-wide call to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists 17 years and older living in Victoria to enter artworks produced in the last 18 months.
Their works reflect a vast array of contemporary and traditional styles and mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, fibre and digital mixed media works.
Tom Mosby also revealed that the Koorie Art Show is the only exhibition in Victoria dedicated to showcasing the works of Koorie and Victorian based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.
