  • Kremlin demanded gas be paid for in rubles. Bulgaria refused to do so and quickly reduced its dependence on Russian gas to zero, but Germany and Italy paid the Russians under a strange Russian scheme approved by Brussels.
  • The Russians devised a complex financial scheme to achieve exactly what they wanted - to divide Europe on the gas issue on one hand, and on the other - to keep the largest customers.
  • German Foreign Minister Robert Habeck has officially acknowledged that Russia is using gas as a weapon.
