Skilled Occupations List will be revised next year to address the shortage of pilots in Australia.

Skilled Occupations List will be revised next year to address the shortage of pilots in Australia.

In an effort to fix a worsening shortage which has led to grounding of planes and cancelling flights, Australia will soon allow foreign pilots to come to the country on two-year work visas, The Australian reports.

The move by Immigration Minister Peter Dutton, which follows lobbying by the peak body for regional airlines, would allow the pilots access to working visas by revising the government's skilled occupation list.

Mr Dutton is reportedly in discussions with the Regional Aviation Association of Australia about extending the period to four years, AAP reports.

The Turnbull government abolished 457 visas on 18th April this year.

457 visa is being replaced with a new Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa program.

More than 200 jobs were cut from the list of occupations that foreign workers could apply for under the new scheme.

The government has also changed the permanent residency arrangements under the TSS Visa program. Previously, 457 visa holders were eligible for permanent residency after two years.

However, under TSS Visa program, there is no residency pathway under the new two-year visa, while four-year visa holders will see the permanent residence eligibility period extended from two to three years.

The Government has also reduced the age limit for temporary work visas from 50 to 45.
