A young man who allegedly went on an unprovoked rampage in a northern suburbs shopping centre on afternoon has been remanded in custody.

A young man who allegedly went on an unprovoked rampage in a northern suburbs shopping centre on afternoon has been remanded in custody.

A CCTV image of the suspect – a young man of African appearance and wearing UFC-style boxing gloves – walking through the shopping centre was released by the South Australia Police.

As can be seen in the released image, the young man’s face was blurred for legal reasons.

SA Police were called to Regency Plaza shopping centre at Sefton Park after reports of a young man was randomly attacking shoppers there.

SA Police reports that at least six people were injured.

A 56-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for concussion.

Regency Plaza store owners warned others that the assailant was approaching.

They eventually chased the young man away.

They young man – Billy Baryea, 20-year-old – appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court and was charged with 5 counts of assault, 3 counts of aggravated assault without a weapon, and a further count of assault causing harm.

9 News reports that the mother of the young man said that her son has mental health issues and that she had sought help.

“He is not bad. He has got a bit of a problem. He is sick. Like mental health problems. I know him to be a good boy. He is not well. He is not doing good at all. He is peaceful and a good boy,” she said.
