COVID-19 update: NSW announces trial of app for proof of vaccine, Victoria invests in school ventilation

This is your update on the Coronavirus in Australia for 22 September 2021.

New South Wales 

NSW has recorded 1,035 new locally acquired cases and five deaths. 

From 6 October, NSW will trial an app of proof of vaccine with Service NSW app involving several hundred people in regional NSW before a state-wide rollout once NSW reaches 70 per cent vaccination target. 

Fragments of the virus have been found in sewage samples from Oberon in western NSW.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 628 new locally acquired cases, with 57 per cent in northern Melbourne suburbs. Three people have died. 

Victoria has announced a $190 million package to deliver 51,000 air purification devices to every government school and low-fee Catholic and Independent schools in Victoria to lower the infection risk. It’s Australia first and the biggest ever investment in school’s ventilation systems. 

In Ballarat, lockdown will end at midnight tonight, but some restrictions will remain, including mandatory masks indoor and outdoor.

Australian Capital Territory

The territory has recorded 17 new locally acquired cases, with at least 11 in the community while infectious. 

ACT is on track to exceed the 95 per cent first-dose vaccination target, with currently over 81 per cent of the eligible population partially vaccinated and 56 per cent fully vaccinated.
