COVID-19 update: Victoria hits 70 per cent vaccination rate, NSW to announce further economic measures

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 2,232 new locally acquired COVID-19 infections and 12 deaths.

Melbourne’s sixth lockdown will officially lift from tonight 11:59PM.

The state will begin a trial of home quarantine for international travellers from next week.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison declared that Victoria has crossed the 70 per cent double vaccination target.

“The longest road has been journeyed in Victoria and that long road starts to open up tonight,” he said.

New South Wales  

New South Wales recorded 372 new locally acquired cases and one death. Two additional cases have been recorded from overseas.

The state government will announce more support for businesses in an economic recovery plan, after it announced a $530 million financial aid plan for the tourism and events sector.

All NSW residents aged over 18 are eligible for a $50 Stay and Discover voucher to spend on a hotel stay in the state.

Queensland

Queensland has recorded one locally acquired case, an Uber driver who had been in Melbourne earlier this month.

Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young said the man, in his 30s, is so sick that authorities are having difficulties getting information from him. 

Meanwhile, ahead of the state’s reopening on December 17th, it will launch its largest vaccination drive, ‘Super Saturday’ vaccination blitz in 100 schools.

ACT

ACT recorded 28 new cases today. There are 425 active cases in the territory.  There will be further easing of restrictions from tonight, after passing the 80 per cent vaccination milestone.
