New South Wales

NSW has recorded 233 new locally acquired cases, with at least 47 in the community while infectious. Two people died from COVID-19, including a man in his 20s from southwest Sydney whose condition is said to have suddenly deteriorated.

Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant urges people in the Newcastle area to come forward for testing as high rates of the virus have been detected in the local sewerage.

Birmingham Gardens, Shortland, Maryland, Fletcher, Minmi, Cameron Park, Mayfield, Stockton, and Fern Bay are the suburbs of particular concern.

Queensland

Queensland has recorded 17 new locally acquired cases, out of which 16 are linked to the existing cluster. A 17th case, not connected to Brisbane’s cluster, was reported in Cairns on the afternoon of 3 August.

Brisbane’s Ekka public holiday, due to start this weekend, is cancelled and will be postponed for some time later this year.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young urges people to consider online shopping or delaying their purchases instead of spending time in the community.
