Australia's best speller is an Indian boy!!

Australia's new spelling champion after the grand finale of Channel Ten's The Great Australian Spelling Bee is an Indian boy, Aniruddh. 

Anirudh, all of 9 years, won the first season of this show after beating Grace in a lengthy decider on Tuesday night.

The aspiring surgeon has walked away with a $50,000 education scholarship - a prize which none of the children knew they were competing for.

Here are five facts you didnt know about this child genius.


Anirudh is immensely interested in studying human body and aspires to be a surgeon.


Anirudh considers Scientist and Philosopher Albert Einstein, his hero.

He studies in Melbourne's Kingston Heath Primary School and winning this Spelling Bee means he has also won an impressive $10,000 worth of goods for his school.


In July 2014, in a maiden competition involving 17 other schools, Anirudh won the Spellmasters Australia Junior Division Round 5.



To claim the top prize the bright youngster successfully spelled words such as exorbitant, continuum, guernsey, ricochet and camaraderie. However, according to reports, his favourite word is "euouae". Which means - (music) (in medieval music) a mnemonic used to recall the sequence of tones in a particular passage of the Gloria Patri.
