Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell took to Instagram on Wednesday to announce his engagement.

The Australian all-rounder has revealed he is engaged to his Indian-origin girlfriend Vini Raman.

He posted the picture with his fiancée on the social media site – Instagram with an emoticon of a ‘ring’.

Highlights:

  • Glenn Maxwell announced a break from cricket in October 2019
  • He had cited mental health issues as a reason for his break from the game
  • He returned to cricket to play in the KFC Big Bash League in December 2019

His fiancée, Vini Raman, in her Instagram post wrote, ‘Last week my favourite person asked me to marry him. #YES.’

Ms Raman is an Indian-Australian, based in Melbourne and a pharmacist by profession.

The player said his girlfriend was the first one to notice his mental health struggles and was his number one support when he was on a break from cricket.

"It was actually my partner who suggested I speak to someone," Maxwell had said upon his return to cricket.

"She was the first one who noticed it.

"I was pretty mentally and physically ruined from eight months on the road and living out of a suitcase. That had probably been going on for four or five years.

"My girlfriend was the number one (support). It probably wasn't an easy job for her to deal with me going through mood swings non-stop for the first few weeks," he said.

The couple is believed to have been together for over two years.
