The grand almost out of this world characters of Padmavati gel well with the spectacular music of Mad Max: Fury Road.

The trailer for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-awaited epic Padmavati debuted online this week, where it quickly went viral, racking up over 18 million views in the first 12 hours.

The highly-anticipated epic is said to be one of the biggest budget Bollywood movies of all time with costs estimated at 2 billion rupees and the launch of it's newest trailer has elicited a similar reaction among Indian audiences to Western audiences' reactions to this week's trailer debut of the new Star Wars installment, The Last Jedi.

The film is an account on the legend of Rani Padmini a legendary Hindu Rajput queen, mentioned in Padmavat an epic poem written in 1540 CE.

It features some of India's biggest films stars including Deepika Padukone in the title role as Rani Padmavati, alongside Ranveer SinghShahid Kapoor, and Aditi Rao Hydari

Padmavat notes that the Rani was the wife of Rana Rawal Ratan Singh a Rajput ruler of Mewar. In 1303, Alauddin Khilji, the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, laid siege to the Chittor Fort and led the invasion allegedly motivated by his desire to capture Rani Padmini.

Rani Padmini is said to have committed jauhar (self-immolation) to protect her honour from Khilji.

An Indian fan has found that Padmavati’s trailer could have something in common with that of Australian ace George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).

This film is set in a future desert wasteland where gasoline and water are scarce commodities.

It follows Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), who joins forces with Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) to flee from cult leader Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) and his army.

While Bhansali’s film is a reinterpretation of a fictitious past and Miller’s film is about a dystopian future.

The mash-up blend by a fan very cleverly places visuals of Padmavati on the soundtrack of the trailer of Mad Max: Fury Road.

The fanmade trailer, titled “Padmavati Max: Khilji Road” directed by “Mastermind George Leela Bhansali," is a tribute to both the Indian and Australian legends - Bhansali and Miller.
