The police informed the family that their son has been found but he is no longer their son.

A renowned family of jewellers in Gujarat, India, reported that their youngest son has been missing for over a week.

The son disappeared on his way home from their shop in Madhavpura.

The police informed the family that their son has been found but he is no longer their son, but their daughter, reports the Times of India.

The youth had disappeared to undergo a gender reassignment surgery, said the police.

His parents and sister are still recovering from the shock of this news.

It is reported that the son, a graduate, joined the family business.

But some years ago, the son realised he was a woman trapped in a man's body.

He tried to convince his family to allow him to undergo a sex change operation.

But the family refused and he never spoke of this issue at home again.

The family thought that things were fine until the son suddenly disappeared.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (Madhavpura) K. N. Manat told Times of India that "The family submitted a missing person application to the police. We traced his phone to a location in Navrangpura."

The police found the man’s motorcycle parked at a private hospital.

"He had undergone a gender reassignment operation there. He gave us a statement that he willingly went under the knife. We informed the family and closed the case," said K. N. Manat.

It is also reported that when the family rushed to the hospital, the son refused to meet them.
