The Indian Film Festival Melbourne 2017 is being held from August 10 to August 22.
This year’s annual film festival will be launched with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony and a special screening of the movie ‘Lipstick under my burka’. The film has been directed by Alankritha Sirivastava and stars actors such as Ratna Pathak and Konkona Sen Sharma.
The opening night will be held at HOYTS Melbourne central on 10th August 2017, at 7 PM.
Westpack IFFM Awards Night will be help on Friday, the 11th of August at 7 PM at Melbourne Recital Centre. Stars and many special guests will get together on this day to reward the hard work of those who have excelled in their craft this past year.
The highlight this year is special guest Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Heralded as "the most beautiful woman in the world,” Aishwarya Rai is one of India's greatest exports.
Other special guests include Karan Johar, Konkona Sen Sharma, Malaika Arora, Nitesh Tiwari, Rahul Bose, Raveena Tondon, Satish Kaushik and many more.
Some of the other events planned this year are:
Indian Independence Day Hoisting of the Flag on Saturday 12th August, 11am at Federation Square. 2017 will mark the 70th anniversary of the birth of a free and independent India. In a spectacular show of support, the City of Melbourne will help the festival mark India’s independence from the British Empire with a traditional flag hoisting ceremony.
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne has proudly invited all community members to attend and celebrate India's history at this ceremonial occasion.
Apart from this, there will be a Telstra Bollywood Dance Competition on the same day at 12 noon at Federation Square and Masterclasses/ “In Conversation” Special events on 13th August at Deakin Edge, Federation Square.
