Australian health officials have sought to calm parents worried their children may be affected by a rare condition related to COVID-19. United States authorities have issued warnings after three children died in New York, while cases have also been reported in the United Kingdom, Italy and France.
As case numbers continue to rise in the UK, doctors have been told to be on the look-out for symptoms like fever, rash and abdominal pain.
It's been likened to Kawasaki disease or toxic shock syndrome, and is now known as Paediatric Multi-system Inflammatory Syndrome.
While the cause is still unknown, it’s believed to be triggered in response to an infection – like COVID-19.
