After weeks of campaigning, the Australian Bureau of Statistics has finally announced the results of the same-sex marriage postal survey this morning at 10am AEST.
The result has been formally announced in Canberra: a majority 61.6% of Australians have supported a change to the current law preventing same-sex couples to marry in Australia.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has declared that the Australian people have voted for love, and now the law has to be changed.
Senator Eric Abetz has recognised the defeat and published a statement titled "Regret but respect", declaring that he deon't agree with the decision of the Australian people but that he will respect it.
