Michael Haneke will once again square off against Jacques Audiard in competition for the Palme d'Or, with their latest films announced as contenders in the Cannes Film Festival Official Competition lineup, announced overnight.

The lineup marks a repeat of 2009, when Haneke's The White Ribbon pipped critic's favourite Audiard's A Prophet for the top prize. This year Haneke's Amour, a story of a woman emerging from a stroke, and Audiard's mystery drama Rust and Bone, face considerable competition from a field of familar names - David Cronenberg (Cosmopolis), Ken Loach (The Angel's Share) , Abbas Kiarostami (Like Someone in Love), Alain Resnais (You Haven't Seen Anything Yet), Lee Daniels (The Paperboy, pictured), Wes Anderson (Moonrise Kingdom) and Walter Salles (On The Road).
