The director, actor and producer Matthew Modine (photo) is to preside over the jury for the Best Debut and Second Film Award in the seventh edition of the Rome International Film Festival, which will be taking place on 9-17 November 2012 in Rome's Music Park Auditorium.

The American director, actor and producer will be accompanied by director, screenwriter and photographic director Laura Amelia Guzmán (Dominican Republic), director, producer and actress Stefania Rocca (Italy), director Alice Rohrwacher (Italy), and producer and film critic Tanya Seghatchian (UK).

The multinational jury will decide on an award for best debut and second film within one of the festival's competitive sections (competition, CinemaXXI, Italian perspectives and autonomous section Alice in the City).

“Reaching out to new directors means on the one hand, taking a note of promising debuts, and on the other putting value on the reinforcement in style that only second films can reveal,” explained the festival's artistic director, Marco Müller. “This is why it seemed important for us to make space for an award for best debut and second film.”
