After his talent was revealed with The Barons, Nabil Ben Yadir is to start shooting his second feature, social comedy La Marche (lit. "The march"), on February 11. According to our information, this Franco-Belgian co-production produced by Parisian production company Chi-Fou-Mi is to star Lambert Wilson (nominated for a 2011 Cesar for best actor for Of Gods and Men), Vincent Rottiers (out in cinemas on January 2 in Renoir), Ramzi Bedia (Les Seigneurs), Leila Bekhti (nominated for a 2012 Cesar for best actress for The Source and well reviewed for A Better Life), Nader Boussandel (Nous York), Charlotte Le Bon (Asterix and Obelix: God Save Britannia), and Philippe Nahon.

Written by the director with Nadia Lakhdar and Ahmed Ahmidi, the screenplay is inspired by real events and is set back in 1983. For many "Arabs" across France, racist crimes and police brutality are inevitable. Youth from the Minguettes (a neighbourhood in Vénissieux, on the outskirts of Lyon), who are no better armed than the others, decide to stop "hanging out" and to do everything so as not to be considered as second class citizens. In the way of Gandhi, they have the idea of a great non-violent march. With the support of Christophe Dubois, the Minguettes' priest, they start a "March for equality and against discrimination". From Marseille to Paris.

Produced by Hugo Sélignac (who gained experience at Productions du Trésor, notably with Little White Lies) for Chi-Fou-Mi, who are thus launching into feature films, La Marche is to be made on a €10.6m budget, including from co-productions with France 3 Cinéma and the Belgians from Entre Chien et Loup, a pre-acquisition by Canal+, and €297,000 in support from the Ile-de-France region. Shooting is set to last from February 11 to April 26, 2013. Negotiations are ongoing for who will handle the film's French distribution and international sales.
