Jan 15 (TheWrap.com) - South by Southwest will kick off its upcoming SXSW Film Conference and Festival on a lighthearted note with "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone."
The Steve Carell comedy, which follows the travails of a pair of Las Vegas magicians, has been named the festival's opening-night film.
In addition to "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," SXSW also announced it will host a number of film premieres including the relationship comedy "Drinking Buddies," the Napster documentary "Downloaded," a remake of the cult horror film "Evil Dead," a documentary about the Beatles secretary titled "Good Ol' Freda" and "Spring Breakers" from "Kids" screenwriter Harmony Korine.
"The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" stars Carell and Steve Buscemi as two illusionists whose outfits seem to have been sequined by Siegfried & Roy's tailor. In the film, their dominance of the Las Vegas strip is challenged by the arrival of a guerilla street magician (Jim Carrey).
The film is directed by Don Scardino ("30 Rock") from a screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who previously paired up on "Horrible Bosses." Daley is also known to television viewers for his performance as the decidedly uncool Sam Weir on the cult show "Freaks and Geeks." Warner Bros. will release the film on March 15, 2013.
SXSW will run from March 8 to March 16.
