A new movie adaptation of Macbeth featuring Harry Potter star Rupert Grint will head into production after a successful crowd-funding campaign.

The Enemy of Man will be made after members of the public pledged more than the target of $US250,000 ($A267,000).

The independent film, directed by Troy's Vincent Regan, will star British actor Sean Bean as the titular character in the latest adaptation of the classic William Shakespeare tragedy. Grint will portray Ross and Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance will play King Duncan.

The campaign, launched on crowd-funding site, will cover the pre-production costs required to get the project off the ground.
