The people of Twitter have spoken and X-Files actress Gillian Anderson is their top pick for the next 007 film.
After a decade in the role and four thrilling instalments, blond Bond Daniel Craig may just about be ready to give up the title.
While some expect him to return for a fifth and final time, a number of hints have been dropped to suggest this could not be the case, including one from his friend Mark Strong who recently said, "I think he’s come to the end of his Bond time".
There's also the matter of a reported AU$136 million offer that Craig is rumoured to have turned down to feature in another two movies which is enough of a cue to get the Twitter-sphere talking.
The hashtag “Next Bond” has been circulating to put forward names for the British star's potential replacement and Anderson’s has picked up plenty of traction. So much in fact, that its prompted the actress to respond, “It’s Bond. Jane Bond.”
Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston are other potential candidates that punters are backing with the latter generating a lot of buzz after he supposedly met up with James Bond director Sam Mendes and producer Barbara Broccoli last week.
Adding fuel to the fire, UK betting agency Coral have recently stopped taking wagers on 35-year-old Hiddleston which some may think is no coincidence.
Other less popular options put forward on Twitter include David Tennant, John Cleese and former London mayor Borris Johnson.
