Cast pictures from the new Harry Potter play were released yesterday and everyone's getting excited about Hermione and Ron's daughter, Rose Granger.
The play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which takes place 19 years after the final Harry Potter novel, made headlines last December when casting directors announced Hermione would be played by an African-British woman. The decision also meant Rose, Hermione's daughter with the red-haired, pale-skinned Ron would be bi-racial.
The family is played by British actors Paul Thornley (Ron), Noma Dumezweni (Hermione), and Cherrelle Skeete (Rose).
Most fans have responded positively to the new photos of the Granger-Weasley family, with several trying to guess which Hogwarts house young Rose has been sorted into, a fact that was not revealed in the novels as her character was too young at the time to attend the wizarding school.
The seven Harry Potter novels by JK Rowling, which inspired the play, make no reference to Hermione's ethnicity. The only reference to her appearance is her big bushy hair, brown eyes, and in the first four books large front teeth.
Pictures of other characters in the play were also released including Harry Potter, Ginny, and their youngest son Albus Severus. And this evening, a first look at Draco Malfoy and his son, Scorpius, was revealed.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will open July 30 at the Palace Theatre in London. The play's script will later be released as the eighth book in the Harry Potter series.
