LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - With the shocking news of Anton Yelchin's death at age 27, director Drake Doremus shared his remembrances of working with the actor on the 2011 Sundance darling Like Crazy with us. Yelchin played a heartthrob furniture designer torn between two women -- Felicity Jones and Jennifer Lawrence -- in the Paramount Pictures release.
"Anton was one of a kind. Such an old soul who was one of the most sincere but also funniest people I have ever met," Doremus said. "He taught me what being a humble and hard working artist is all about. His laugh was the best sound in the world, it was so contagious and comforting. He was always up to something to make you laugh especially if you were getting frustrated or being too serious. Anton changed my life in so many ways and I'll never forget him. Everybody in the Like Crazy family wants to send their love to Anton's family on this incredibly devastating day. Laphroaig is in my glass my friend. Love you Anton."
Like Crazy won the Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize. The film received positive reviews, with many singling out Yelchin's performance. Variety's Andrew Barker called it "an exquisite, beautifully acted gem" in his review.
Yelchin died early Sunday morning after being pinned between a brick mailbox pillar and car.
