The trailer for Terrence Malick's new IMAX documentary Voyage of Time is finally here, and as you'd expect, it's suitably epic.

Nearly four decades in the making, Voyage of Time is described as "a one-of-a-kind celebration of life and the grand history of the cosmos". Sounds like it will mark a return to the universal themes of The Tree of Life, which won Malick the Palme d'Or in 2011. And as with The Tree of Life, Brad Pitt is also on board, this time as narrator.

Jessica Chastain and Brad Pitt are parents struggling with a crisis of faith in Terrence Malick's Palme d'Or winner. But that's only part of the picture. Watch it now.

Spanning from the Big Bang to the present day, it's certainly an ambitious project, and judging from the trailer, it will feature some of the most jaw-droppingly beautiful imagery we've ever seen from the director.

Interestingly, there will be two versions of the film released. One 40-minute IMAX version narrated by Brad Pitt, and one 90-minute 35mm version narrated by Cate Blanchett.

The IMAX version opens in the US on 7 October. An Australian release date is yet to be confirmed.
