A disturbing fan theory is calling into question everything you know and love about Grease.

The '50s-set feel good flick ends with summer lovers Danny and Sandy soaring off into the sky, but what if it isn’t simply euphoria that sees the couple and their car lift off?

A fan theory started by Reddit user atomicbolt, is doing the rounds on social media, and proposes that Sandy is actually dead.

It all harks back to that line in 'Summer Nights' where Danny sings that he “saved her life, she nearly drowned". Instead, atomicbolt insists, “Sandy actually did drown on the beach that day".

“As she drowned, her brain deprived of oxygen, she had a vivid coma fantasy involving her summer fling with Danny, where they shared a magical year of high school together," they say.

Sandy's dream becomes more and more fantastic as she slips closer towards death and eventually ends in her “ascending to heaven”.

The theory was first shared back in 2013 but began trending on Twitter on Thursday. Even actress Sarah Michelle Geller got on board saying it “blew my mind”.
