"The hardest type of comedy for me is just to relax and be a regular guy. This character is pretty much the closest thing to me as I've ever done. I like that; it's different," says Robin Williams in this interview from the archives of The Movie Show.

In his review of the film, David Stratton raves about Williams' performance:  “Well, Robin Williams didn’t win an Oscar for his performance in Good Morning Vietnam but I still reckon he should have.”
