The tale of two lost souls, torn between desperation and an intense longing for hope, in which 20-year-old Sibel, desperate to escape the suffocating traditional discipline of her family, convinces disillusioned alcoholic Cahit to marry her.

A daring, hard-hitting film.

Fatih Akin's intense drama Head-On is the story of two second-generation Turkish Germans.

Birol Unel is Cahit, an anguished man soaking in alcohol and drugs. Sibell, played by Sibel Kekilli in her first acting role, is searching for an escape from her conservative Turkish family.

When her suicide attempt fails to secure her freedom, she convinces Cahit to enter a fake marriage. Their platonic arrangement suffers a train wreck when they fall in love. The film's success is its casting and uncompromising storyline.

Combined with a powerful, punk soundtrack, Head-On is so full on, it's intoxicating.
