Driven is a film about the international motor racing circuit and rivalry among the drivers who travel the world with their support teams and their girlfriends seeking to win the championship. Joe Tanto, Sylvester Stallone, is a retired veteran driver called back into service by crippled team owner and ex-driver Carl Henry, Burt Reynolds, because Henry`s star driver, Jimmy Bly, Kip Pardur, is having trouble. Jimmy`s racetrack foe is the German Beau Brandenberg, Til Schwieger, and they`re off-track rivals, too, both involved with the same girl, Sophia, Estella Warren. Complicating matters further is the presence of Joe`s bitchy ex-wife, Gina Gershon, who`s now attached to Memo, Cristian de la Fuente, another driver. Driven is a strictly formulaic - formula one racetrack drama with a plot that looks almost exactly the same as every other motor racing epic you`ve ever seen. What sets this apart is the screenplay, by Stallone himself, which plunges into new depths to find ever older cliches, and the frenetic, busy direction of Renny Harlin. There are, of course, some spectacular crashes made more spectacular by computerised tweaking. But the characters here, despite a pretty interesting cast, are profoundly uninteresting.
