Just briefly ? to an Australian film in limited release at the moment ? The Widower. Directed by Kevin Lewis, it brings the verse of Australia?s poet laureate, Les Murray, to life on the screen. Chris Hayward and Matt Dyall play Neville and Blake, a father and son coming to terms with the loss of their wife and mother Mary, Frances Rings. Neville is diagnosed as terminally ill, and when Blake returns from boarding school their unresolved feelings of loss re-surface. Beautifully filmed by Kim Batterham, this unconventional film is driven by music and poetry rather than narrative, creating a unique and emotionally insightful human drama. The Widower is screening in select cinemas in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
