Diesel plays Xander Cage, known as per the tattoo on the back of his neck as Triple X. He`s a bit of an anarchist as we see in the spectacular opening sequence when he makes off with the car of a Senator who wants to ban rock music and video games. It seems the National Security Agency is looking for someone exactly like Xander. Agent Gibbons, Samuel L Jackson, is sick of his agents being spotted a mile off by a group in Prague called Anarchy 99, led by Yorgi, Marton Csokas. The NSA want to send their own snake into the pit to investigate whether Anarchy 99 have accessed a secret biological weapon known as Silent Night. When Xander joins the group he finds himself attracted to Yelena, Asia Argento, daughter of Italian horror maestro Dario Argento. There is no doubting the spectacular nature of the stunts in this film, Rob Cohen choreographs them stunningly, although it`s disconcerting to note that one of the stunt man died making the film. But apart from the stunts there`s not a lot holding this film together. There`s a distinct lack of wit. The plot is humdrum, the characters are undeveloped, and Xander escapes so many unbelievable situations that you feel the whole thing is rigged, we know who`s going to survive, but do we care? There`s a palpable lack of pace and tension. So for looking at, rather than getting involved in, xXx passes muster. But not by much.
