Amazon launches Netflix equivalent

Prime Video, Amazon's video streaming service, is now available in Australia.

Amazon has revealed its answer to Netflix and Stan, launching video streaming service Prime Video in Australia.

The launch comes as part of an expansion to 200 countries worldwide.

Similar to other online services, Prime Video can be streamed and downloaded on mobile and tablet apps and certain televisions.

Prime Video launched at a discounted introductory price of $US2.99 a month in Australia, cheaper than Netflix's base monthly rate of $A8.99.

It features original Amazon shows, notably The Grand Tour featuring former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson.
