Australia wins women's Oceania sevens

Australia have won the women's title at the Oceania rugby sevens championship in Fiji with a win over New Zealand but the men finished fourth in their division.

Australia have beaten New Zealand 14-10 to win the the women's final at the Oceania sevens rugby championship in Suva, while the men finished fourth in their section.

After beating hosts Fiji 29-0 in the semi-finals earlier on Saturday, Australia's women bolted to a 14-0 lead in the final.

New Zealand scored two tries to slash the deficit to four points but couldn't make their conversions and Australia's defence absorbed tremendous late pressure to seal the win.

It wasn't such a productive day for the men's team, though they started Saturday with a 19-7 quarter-final victory over Tonga.

They lost 14-5 to New Zealand in the semi-final and were defeated 14-12 by Samoa in the third-fourth place playoff.
