Australian mountain biker bungy jumps ahead of World Cup

Australian mountain biker Chris Barlin has performed a downhill bungy jump on his bike ahead of the 2014 Mountain Bike World Cup's Australian leg.

Barlin, 27, performed the stunt today at AJ Hackett Bungy in Cairns.

He said it had been a unique experience.

“It was definitely very different to what I am used to as we usually have very calculated training, everything is taken into consideration," he said. "But this was a lot of fun."

Known as the "Rumble in the Rainforest," the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup's Australian leg will consist of three events - Olympic Cross Country (XCO), Downhill (DHI) and Cross Country Eliminator (DHI) – over three days.

The event attracts hundreds of top mountain bikers from around the world to compete at the far North Queensland course.

It begins Thursday with official training, qualifying will be held on Friday afternoon and finals on Saturday.

The Cup series runs from April to August and includes nine events in nine countries. The opening round took place in South Africa.
