A West Australian police officer at the centre of shocking footage allegedly showing a police car hitting an Indigenous teenager has been stood down from active duty after NITV News revealed additional footage.

A video that initially emerged earlier this week showed an unmarked police car hitting the teenager.

In a statement provided to NITV News WA Police media said the matter was being investigated internally.

"The officer, a senior sergeant, was stood down from all operational duty pending the outcome of the investigation by the Internal Affairs Unit," the statement said.

West Australian police earlier claimed the teenager was being sought for questioning after people in the area complained about “suspicious activity”.
