Courthouse duty all in a day's work for caring canines


Nine more courts in New South Wales will take on the therapy dogs, as trials in Victoria get underway.

Hugo, the six-year-old Cavoodle was on trial, but now he's in the clear.

The energetic pooch, together with Norman and Venus - just completed a nine month stint at the Manly Courthouse helping to comfort those attending court.

These dogs a what's known as "therapy dogs", and are used in courthouses to help reduce stress and anxiety and therefore improve the quality of evidence that witnesses give.

Volunteers say they're especially effective when it comes to helping victims of domestic violence.
