Assistant Treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer has provided an update on the success of the serious financial crime taskforce.

A federal government taskforce into serious financial crime is on its way to paying for itself after only three months.

The activities of the $127 million taskforce, established on July 1, has resulted in 500 audits by the Australian Taxation Office and recovered $85 million in unpaid liabilities.

"The government is absolutely committed to ensuring tax avoidance, whether international or domestic, does not corrupt our tax system in Australia," Assistant Treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.
