A man was stabbed in the back and another slashed with a knife in separate attacks outside Melbourne nightclubs.

Two people have been attacked with knives and three assaulted in separate attacks involving bouncers outside Melbourne nightclubs.

Two bouncers were punched at a nightclub on Swanston Street on Thursday night after two revellers were kicked out.

Both offenders ran off but one returned and stabbed a third nightclub staff member in the back before fleeing again.

The injured 29-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the two bouncers didn't need treatment for minor facial injuries.

Just hours later in a separate incident outside a Queen Street nightclub, a man who allegedly slashed a bouncer with a knife was beaten up after being chased.

The man cut a security guard on the leg after being refused entry, police say.

The injured bouncer and a group of his colleagues chased the man, and he was assaulted, police say.

He is in the Alfred Hospital with serious injuries, but is in a stable condition.

The bouncer didn't require treatment.
