Flamingos return to Cyprus for winter


Flocks of greater flamingos have returned to Cyprus to spend the winter feeding in the island's salt lakes. Recent heavy rainfall has created less than ideal conditions for the birds, which have less shrimps to feed on in the less salty conditions. Numbers vary every year, between 2,000 and 18,000, depending on weather conditions in the surrounding areas and rainfall levels.
