HIV drug PrEP to qualify for government subsidy

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt will announce the $180 million listing of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, which helps stop the transmission of HIV, on the PBS.

The cost of a drug aimed at stopping the spread of HIV is about to be slashed.

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is a daily drug recently recommended for placement on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, which would significantly reduce its price-tag.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt is due to announce on Wednesday the drug will be listed from next month, amounting to a subsidy of $180 million
