The national broadband network's second satellite has blasted off into space after being delayed by bad weather.

Sky Muster II took off from the French Guiana Space Centre in South America on Thursday morning - a day later than scheduled.

The faces of 700 Australians were featured like a mosaic on the rocket, representing the 400,000 homes and businesses in regional and remote Australia the network plans to connect with the satellite.
