A man wanted over the stabbing of another at a Melbourne apartment has died after being arrested.
The man wanted over the stabbing of another at a Melbourne apartment has died in police custody.
David Perry, 35, was arrested on The Great Ocean Road at Bellbrae about 7.30pm on Friday and fell unconscious soon after but was unable to be revived, Victoria Police said in a statement on Saturday night.
Perry was arrested the same day a warrant was issued for his arrest over a stabbing at a St Kilda apartment early on Friday morning.
A man and woman returned to their flat in Wellington Street, St Kilda and once inside, they were confronted by a man armed with a knife who stabbed the male victim in the arm and back, before fleeing.
The 32-year-old victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the woman, 25, was not injured.
Police believe Perry might have suffered an abdominal injury during the assault.
All deaths in police custody are investigated by the Homicide Squad, with oversight from Professional Standards Command as per standard practice.
