No govt plan for Qld watch house kids

Queensland's system for working with children will be reformed under laws expected to pass state parliament this week.

Changes to the system that determines who can work with children in Queensland are expected to pass parliament this week.

The Liberal National Party says it will support the state government's proposed reforms to the "blue card" system but is critical of how long the changes will take.

LNP MP David Janetzki says it will take at least a year for the new system to be fully introduced, leaving open a risk sex offenders can obtain access to children.

A wider range of crimes will disqualify people from ever working with children under the laws, including bestiality, child kidnapping, child stealing and abduction of a child under 16.

Employers would also be notified when an employee is charged or convicted so they can be removed from the workplace.
