Reviews for disability support pensioners

Disability support pensioners whose medical conditions could improve may have their claims reviewed soon following advice from the commonwealth auditor.

Disability support pensioners whose health is likely to improve over time could soon be targeted for medical review.

The Department of Human Services has agreed to advice from the commonwealth auditor to identify people whose medical conditions have a greater chance of improvement in a bid to curb the numbers of long-term claimants.

The audit found that there were financial incentives for people to claim the payment - it's $250 more than unemployment benefits and work participation was low.
