Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young will move to allow media access to immigration detention centres when parliament returns.

Senator Hanson-Young said she was "gravely concerned" about asylum seekers within centres such as the Manus Island facility, where protests have entered their ninth day.

"When Parliament resumes I will be moving for the media to have access to all Australian funded detention centres and will move to provide protections to people inside to speak freely about what is really happening behind the gates," she said.
