Captain Trent Cotchin leads the wholesale Richmond changes ahead of Sunday's must-win AFL game against struggling St Kilda.

Richmond have made a whopping seven changes out of the bye as they aim to re-launch their spluttering AFL season.

Captain Trent Cotchin and fellow premiership players David Astbury, Kane Lambert and Shane Edwards headline the inclusions for Sunday's match against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium.

Ivan Soldo, Jayden Short and Shai Bolton are the other additions, while Jack Higgins and Dan Butler are among the axings as Richmond try to arrest a three-game losing streak.

They had dropped to their dreaded ninth place at the start of round 15 and must beat the Saints, who are also slumping as the pressure mounts on coach Alan Richardson.

St Kilda have also made four changes, dropping David Armitage and Jack Newnes on the back of last weekend's thrashing from Brisbane.

They have lost Dean Kent to a season-ending quad injury and Jonathon Marsh is the other omission.

The Saints regain Jack Steele, while Nick Coffield, Ben Long and Ben Paton also come into the side.

Cam McCarthy takes Jesse Hogan's place in the Fremantle lineup for the Sunday home game against Carlton, who have lost Brownlow Medal fancy Patrick Cripps to a foot injury.

Michael Hibberd returns for Melbourne in Sunday's away game against the Gabba.
