Warriors promote local cricket talent

Eight players from Perth's local cricket competition have been promoted to Western Australia's contracted players list for next season.

Western Australia have added eight players from the local club competition to the Warriors' contracted list for the 2016/17 season.

Ryan Duffield returns to the setup after a year away from the Warriors and former Tasmania batsman Jonathan Wells has been offered a contract after playing two Sheffield Shield matches last season.

Josh Nicholas also played two Shield matches for WA last campaign and has been rewarded with a contract too.

Also included are 2015/16 under-19 nationals player of the championships Clint Hinchliffe, who was in last year's AFL Draft, and former Australia under-19 representatives Jake Carder and Matt Kelly.

WACA general manager of high performance Ben Oliver says he is happy with the balance between experience and "some of the most talented young players in Australia.

"They are all great people and we are excited about the potential for this group to achieve success on and off the field over the coming years," Oliver added.

WA have lost batsman Marcus Harris to Victoria, experienced paceman Michael Hogan to retirement and former Cricket Australia contracted spearhead Mitchell Johnson who is no longer playing.

Outs: Tom Beaton, Nick Hobson, Jaron Morgan (not offered State contract), Marcus Harris (Victoria), Matt Dixon (Essex), Mitchell Johnson, Michael Hogan (both retired).

Upgrades: Nathan Coulter-Nile, Adam Voges (both State to CA), Liam O'Connor, Jhye Richardson (both elevated from Rookie to State).
