An Indigenous man has died in a New South Wales prison, 18 days after he supposed to have been released.
Justice Minister John Hatzistergos, says the 23 year old man died at the John Maroney Correctional Centre at Windsor on January 22nd this year.
He was supposed to be released on January 4 but wasn't because of a miscalculation by the parole board.
While the Corrections Department was informed of the death the day after the event, the man's family was only informed today.
The Minister has offered the family a full apology, and has ordered an immediate review of all functions of the Parole Board.
